Samuel Gilbert: Legend of Fearless Pursuit
In this conversation, Sam is incredibly generous and vulnerable with what he reveals in his reinventions. One of the things I love about doing these podcasts is the conversations it sparks and the ripples the questions send out into the families of the guests and the world.
In answering the questions about reinvention, Sam, his Mum and his Dad had conversations they had never had before, and Sam heard stories about his Dad he had never heard before (His Dad is a famous Australian ceramicist, John Gilbert) he found out more about his reinvention from schoolteacher to potter and beyond. It’s easy to track where Sam gets his entrepreneurial spirit, work ethic and drive from.
This puts me in mind of the previous guest, with Gretchen where we took a deep dive into her family stories and remembered so many events and long since forgotten stories. Another story that comes up again and again for Japan-based guests is the impact the 2011 Triple earthquake, Tsunami and nuclear disaster had and Sam is no exception - it changed his, his wife’s and his business partner’s lives forever…
In this Podcast you will learn:
Sam’s decision making process when he was faced with being a musician or an alternative, more stable career path
Work ethic, focus and strategy that have led to Sam’s busy and fulfilling life
How many different careers and lives a person can lead and the pathway his Dad took
The Financial Crisis and Great Eastern Earthquake in Japan was actually a high catalyst for Sam’s reinvention
How Sam is currently undergoing a leadership reinvention and talks very frankly about that in the final part of the conversation (where he gets a mini coaching session!)
